LAW / POLICY REGARDING FIXING OF GREEN NUMBER PLATES, BLUE / RED LIGHTS AND TINTED GLASSES ON VEHICLES

 Government of the Punjab, Home Department issued policy / law regarding fixing of green number plates, blue / red lights and tinted glasses on vehicles. 


In supersession of all previous instructions issued by the Home Department from time to time, following directions are issued:-

i)     Green Number Plates be displayed only on the vehicles solely owned by the Government.

 

ii)    Signs / Number Plates depicting ownership by Industrial concerns, NGOs or other such distinctive appellations shall not be displayed on any vehicle.

 

iii)    The word Political Assistant/Agent may be displayed on the official vehicles of the P.A / Commandant / Senior Commandant of Border Military Police / Baluch Levy within their respective jurisdictions.

 

iv)    Strict and uncompromising checking of the vehicles with tinted / coloured glasses may be carried out. All tinted coverings be removed forthwith.

 

v)    All Divisional Commissioners / Deputy Commissioners / Regional Police Officers / Capital City / City Police Officers / Deputy Inspectors General of Police (Traffic). District Police Officers, City Traffic Officers, SPs / SDPOs, Superintendent of Jail, Deputy Superintendent of Jail, Additional Commissioners, Additional Deputy Commissioners, Assistant Commissioners and their hierarchy may retain Blue revolving lights on top of their official vehicles.

 

vi)    All Price Control Magistrates duly notified for the purpose of checking and controlling prices of essential commodities in the area of their respective jurisdictions may also retain blue revolving light on top of their official vehicles.

 

vii)    They may switch it on within their territorial jurisdictions, but only if there is a requirement for the same. They would not, repeat not, use these lights when travelling out of their territorial jurisdictions.

 

viii)    Subordinate revenue officials shall remove Blue Lights from their official vehicles immediately.

 

ix)     Ambulances and vehicles used in rescue operations / fighting and extinguishing fire incidents etc. may display Red / Orange emergency lights atop these vehicles. Use of these lights for purposes other than those mentioned above is strictly prohibited.

 

x)    Strict action be taken against those government / public functionaries who fix / display blue / red lights in violation of these instructions or use green number plates / tinted glasses on their private vehicles.

 

xi)    No display of arms be anybody is allowed in any case except by authorized police personnel deputed for security / escort duties.
